What is art therapy?

What is art therapy?

Close your eyes and think of a really meaningful memory. What did you see?

Most likely, you saw a visual snapshot of that moment.

Inside the mind exists an unimaginable collection of images, memories, symbols and emotional imprints that quietly shape how we experience ourselves, others and the world around us. Each of these inner snapshots
carries with it a belief, perception, emotion or story — whether rooted in
pleasure, pain, fear, love, safety or connection.

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses creativity as a pathway into this inner world. Through image-making, creative exploration, mindfulness and reflective processes, art therapy helps bring subconscious
thoughts, emotions and patterns into conscious awareness, creating
opportunities for healing, self-understanding and transformation.

Often, what we create reveals far more than words can express. The images, colours, symbols and stories that emerge through the creative process can offer profound insight into our beliefs, emotions and perceptions. By learning to observe and engage with these expressions consciously and compassionately, we begin to better understand who we are beneath conditioning, overwhelm and survival patterns.

At the heart of The Conscious Creativity Method™ is the belief that creativity is far more than artistic skill— it is an innate human language that reconnects us to presence, intuition, emotional healing and authentic self-expression. Through the act of creation, we can regulate the nervous system, process emotions safely, restore inner balance and reconnect with a deeper sense of meaning and wholeness.

Creativity is not just something we do. It is a pathway back to ourselves.

My philosophy

In a world that often encourages us to disconnect from our emotions, intuition and authentic expression, creativity invites us to slow down, listen deeply and reconnect with the truth of who we are. Art becomes more than something we make — it becomes a language of the soul. A bridge between the conscious and subconscious mind. A space where emotions, memories,
beliefs and inner experiences can safely emerge into awareness.

Through The Conscious Creativity Method™, I offer a holistic and deeply reflective approach to art therapy that integrates creativity, mindfulness, subconscious exploration and emotional healing. This method draws upon ancient philosophies, meditation, breathwork, visual and written journaling and creative therapeutic practices that work together to
support self-awareness, emotional regulation and transformation.

At the heart of this work is the understanding that what we create often reveals far more than words can express. The colours we choose,
the symbols that emerge and the stories we unconsciously tell through art can offer profound insight into our inner world. By learning to engage with these expressions consciously and compassionately, we create opportunities for healing, clarity and reconnection.

This work is not about artistic skill or perfection. It is about creating from a place of presence, curiosity and authenticity.

The power of creative expression

The power of creative expression

Art therapy offers a gentle yet deeply transformative approach to understanding yourself, processing emotions and navigating life’s
challenges.

Sometimes words alone cannot fully express what we carry inside us. Visual expression allows us to communicate experiences, emotions and subconscious patterns that may otherwise remain hidden beneath the surface. Through creativity, we begin to externalise our inner world in a safe and symbolic way, creating opportunities for healing, self-discovery and emotional release.

My role as an art therapy practitioner is to compassionately guide this process, helping you explore and understand the deeper meaning within your creative expression and how it may connect to the areas of life you wish to heal, strengthen or transform.

Engaging in the creative process can also be inherently regulating and restorative. Art therapy not only supports emotional healing and
self-awareness, but also helps reconnect us with imagination, intuition,
playfulness, self-expression and our natural creative intelligence.

This work is an antidote to the overstimulation and disconnection of the modern world — a space to pause, reflect, feel and reconnect with yourself in a more conscious and loving way.

Inside the creative process

Inside the creative process

Experience the benefits of deeply personalised and holistic art therapy sessions tailored to your individual needs, goals and emotional journey.

Whether you are seeking emotional release, support through a life transition, greater self-understanding, nervous system regulation, stress relief or simply a creative outlet for expression and reflection, sessions are
thoughtfully designed to support where you are and what you need.

Each session offers a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment where you are invited to explore your inner world through a range
of creative processes, therapeutic activities and reflective practices.
Depending on your needs, sessions may incorporate visual artmaking, journaling, mindfulness, breathwork, symbolism, meditation and subconscious exploration.

Art therapy can be especially powerful when experienced over a series of sessions, allowing space for deeper exploration, reflection and integration over time. As trust develops within the therapeutic process, we are able to gently uncover patterns, process emotions and gain insights that may
not emerge within a single session. Therapeutic goals can evolve alongside your growth, ensuring that each session supports where you are in your journey.

No artistic experience or skill is needed. This work is not about creating something perfect — it is about creating honestly.

A space for everyone

Art therapy can support people through many different life experiences and emotional challenges. Some individuals come to art therapy seeking stress relief, emotional balance and nervous system regulation, while others are navigating grief, burnout, anxiety, life transitions, identity exploration or personal growth.

The beauty of art therapy is that it meets each person exactly where they are. Because creativity is a universal human language, art therapy can support people across different ages, backgrounds and experiences in a way that feels accessible, empowering and deeply personal.

Above all, art therapy offers a compassionate space to slow down, reconnect with yourself and explore your inner world safely through creativity and conscious expression.

Individual sessions

One-on-one art therapy sessions provide personalised psychotherapeutic support for both adults and children in a safe, creative and deeply supportive environment.

Each session is tailored to your unique experiences, emotional needs and therapeutic goals. Together, we create a space for self-reflection, emotional processing, subconscious exploration and healing through creativity.

These sessions honour your own pace and readiness for exploration, allowing you to gently engage with emotions, patterns and experiences in a way that feels safe and empowering. Through the process of conscious creativity, individuals often develop greater emotional awareness, self-compassion, resilience and connection to themselves.

Children's sessions

Creativity has always been an essential part of childhood development. Through artmaking, children naturally communicate emotions, process experiences and make sense of the world around them.

My children’s sessions are guided by The Conscious Creativity Method™ — a holistic approach that combines creativity, emotional awareness, mindfulness and self-expression to support the whole child.

These sessions are not simply about making art. They are about nurturing emotionally aware, creative and connected human beings. Weekly children's group classes are available on Saturdays, see the timetable here. Alternatively, get in touch below for an individual session.

Children’s art class and art therapy

Art class with a twist — where creativity is limitless. Guided by The Conscious Creativity Method™, these holistic children’s art classes explore both conventional and unconventional artmaking techniques while nurturing creativity, imagination and authentic self-expression.

Beyond developing artistic skills, children are encouraged to strengthen creative thinking, problem-solving, intuition and emotional awareness through meaningful creative exploration. Within a supportive and inspiring environment, children learn the power of their voice through art while developing confidence, resilience, social connection, cultural awareness
and a deeper understanding of themselves and others. Click here to see the children's timetable.

Group sessions

Group art therapy offers a meaningful space for connection, creativity and shared human experience. Sessions can be facilitated in both small and large groups depending on the intention of the experience and may focus on relaxation, team building, emotional wellbeing, self-expression, personal growth or conscious connection.

Guided by The Conscious Creativity Method™, group sessions are designed to create a safe and supportive environment where participants can explore themselves through creativity while also feeling seen, heard and connected to others. Through shared creative experiences, individuals
are often reminded that they are not alone in what they feel and that healing can happen powerfully within community.

Group sessions can be created for workplaces, corporate wellbeing programs, schools, friendship groups, retreats, community organisations and private gatherings, with each experience thoughtfully tailored to the unique needs and intentions of the group.

Sessions may be theme-based or developed as multi-session programs, with each session offering a different focus designed to support the goals, dynamics and experiences of those involved.

Couples sessions

Art therapy offers couples a unique and deeply reflective way to communicate beyond words. Through visual and creative expression, partners are able to explore thoughts, emotions and experiences that may feel difficult to express verbally, creating opportunities for deeper understanding, compassion and connection.

Within the creative process, couples are invited to slow down, listen differently and engage with one another in a more conscious and authentic way. Sessions may support couples in navigating communication challenges, emotional disconnection, conflict resolution, intimacy and relational growth.

Creating together can also strengthen trust, encourage collaboration and foster a greater sense of emotional safety and connection within the relationship. Through creativity, couples often gain new insight into themselves, each other and the patterns that shape their relationship dynamic.

Family sessions

Family art therapy creates a space where every member of the family can feel seen, heard and valued through creative expression. Regardless of age or role within the family system, each person is given the opportunity to communicate their thoughts, feelings and experiences in a safe and supportive environment.

Whether sessions are designed as a meaningful shared experience or as ongoing therapeutic support, family art therapy encourages connection, understanding and emotional expression in a way that words alone
often cannot.

Through collaborative and individual creative processes, families can explore communication patterns, strengthen emotional bonds, navigate challenges and create healthier foundations built on love, respect, compassion and safety.

At the heart of this work is the understanding that healing and connection happen most powerfully when people feel safe to authentically express themselves.

Special Occasions

Art therapy can bring a meaningful and memorable dimension to special occasions by creating space for creativity, connection and conscious reflection.

Whether for birthdays, hens celebrations, retreats, anniversaries, women’s circles or other significant milestones, these experiences invite participants to engage in creative practices that honour the meaning and emotion behind the occasion.

Guided by The Conscious Creativity Method™, sessions are thoughtfully designed to encourage authentic self-expression, connection and presence while creating lasting memories through shared creative experiences.

Because creativity naturally supports emotional expression, nervous system regulation and reflection, art therapy can be especially powerful during moments of celebration, transition or personal transformation. These experiences offer more than just a creative activity — they create opportunities for deeper connection, meaningful conversation and moments that participants carry with them long after the event ends.
