What is a commissioned artwork?

When I look back on my life,

As I remember how one small feeling,

Transforming into something so breathtaking and pure,

That it filled my world with warmth,

Shifted darkness into light,

And created joy for all that walked upon its path.

For there is nothing more embracing, awakening and healing,

Boundless Love.

They cascaded, uncontrollable and freeing, crashing into the rolling waves and transforming into messages. Every tear that fell was held, and the ocean, with the comforting pulse of her rhythm and her growing tide, carried them higher and higher. She gave my message to the moon, knowing that the moon, in all her celestial greatness, would know where to find you. For the moon has known us and watched us our entire existence, undoubtedly swelling fuller every time you sang about her. When you left, and our hearts were shattered, hers would have rejoiced because now you speak her language, the language of stardust. And so, I will continue searching for you in every star I see, I will hear your melody every time I gaze at the moon and the waves will be my messengers, carrying the whispers of my heart to you. I will make my peace, knowing that you are now part of something bigger, that a love like yours belongs much higher.

She was guided by her soul, forever free. Her spirit travelled far and wide as it listened to the whispers of her heart. She journeyed through the wilderness, through adventures and triumphs and faced the storms with courage and grace. She learnt about the world by truly living in it, by soaking up all it had to offer and unapologetically embraced all her different colours. In doing so, she left her mark, so much so that every person, every place and every life that encountered her energy, no matter how momentary, was left renewed. And in witnessing such magic, the world found it hard to forget what it is like to be touched by a spirit that is so refreshingly free.

When the darkness settled in like a veil, there was nothing we could do but hope. As we watered the Bodhi tree, we hoped. Each footstep that circled the tree was heavy with the yearning that plagued our hearts. We chanted, dreaming of her face, her laugh, her soul. And still, we kept going, holding onto a hope beyond logic that she was there, waiting for us.

We must have done something right. They must have heard our plea and helped her find us. She came, shining gently but brightly, softening the fear in our hearts so we could breathe again.

As she grew stronger, we grew stronger too. The veil began to lift, the darkness dissolving into light and in its place remained an overwhelming gratitude for the divine guidance that carried us through.

I journey through love, heartache, joy and pain with the comfort of knowing that I am never alone. Your spirit, your story, your energy, laced with so much wisdom and love helped create mine. You gave me all that you knew and all that you could and held my hand as I learnt to let go of yours. As I chose to join our stories with the stories of another love, your light never faded, instead it stayed with me like a comforting presence that never wavered. And now, all our stories are interwoven with so much richness that as we journey onwards, we are ignited by a presence that is greater than us.

The trees knew before she did. They used the wind to whisper words of encouragement, waiting ever so patiently for her to come home. Gently nudging her to discover the magic she carried within. Nudging, but never forcing, for this discovery had to take place in her own time, on her own terms. She finally came home to discover her roots already there from seeds planted long ago but forgotten. Now reunited, they thrived. Reaching deep into the ground, she used the secrets of the earth to wield a raw energy through her. There was a wholeness there that grounded her, a clarity that brought both serenity and a surge of momentum. She was home. When she flourished, the energy flowed from her roots to theirs. As her light shone brighter, so did those of her saplings. See, they already carried her spark, so when she was ignited, they were too. Understanding that she would not hold them like this forever, she made her peace, knowing that they were now connected by something deeper.

I look at you and see you looking at a world that I don’t see anymore. Your eyes, they light up and glimmer when you look at the moon. You see yourself in the mirror and you beam, a twinkle in your eyes. You are in awe of you.

I am in awe of you. I look at you and I see you feeling in a world where I don’t feel anymore. Not the way you do, so raw and unfiltered. You feel love to the depths of your core, its purity lingers long after you’ve left. Your anger is all consuming, exploding in a fury of expression. It’s uncontrollable, yet the darkness within has been released. I am still in awe of you. I look at you and I see you being in a world I struggle to be in. Your mind doesn’t waver, it's sharply focused on right now. There is peace. I imagine you twenty years from now and with an aching heart I see you looking at the same world I see. Your eyes drift from your game and they find mine, still filled with so much energy and magic. And as I gaze back into them, I silently promise myself to show you how to keep your world so that you never have to see mine.

Though the sun is setting on your time with us, your roots will forever be grounded here. There is no space untouched, no tree or flower that will forget, as your energy will forever be laced into their roots. The children will continue to laugh and play, continue to learn, grow and be curious, and even the children that will not meet you will unknowingly be touched, because your magic lingers on in the dream you created for them. Those that carry your dream onwards, are given strength by your legacy, and now with their magic, are able to grow with the changing seasons. As we move forward, we do so with ease because your energy, your love, your vision, will forever ground us and will never be forgotten.

Even though you may have read the last page and put the book down, believing it was the last time that the children, the leaves and the place would hear your stories, look around, because this type of magic cannot be created in a moment. This type of magic exists, because every story you have read lingers in the hearts of the children, long after they have grown. Every word said with love, makes the vines flourish, and the place is alive because you have graced us with your spirit, and left behind your never-ending story.

The sky beamed, welcoming you into this world. Gleaming from the light of your soul, it had never looked more magnificent. It was as though any inhibitions that were keeping us in the dark had evaporated. There was clarity now, a certainty and an understanding. It came from the purest of places, drawing its magic from the very roots of our existence. Perhaps it had always been there and we were not aware, or perhaps we had been living an illusion until now. For what greater light is there than the one you brought into our lives? It is clear as I gaze into the stars now basking in your light, how enlightening it is to love without any inhibitions. To love another soul from the purest depths of your own. The freedom, joy and peace that radiates from that light is even more illuminating when it’s used to see the world. Everything shines brighter, the moon, the sun and the stars are all etched with a glow, a glow that will never fade again. And perhaps the most beautiful thing about your light is you have shown us the potential we have to love infinitely and the potential we have to take this infinite love into the world and really make a difference. So thank you for bringing a light we didn’t know existed, but a light that we can never live without again.

I will always be me, unapologetically and uniquely who I was designed to be. And you will always be you, and there will always be space for us to grow, change and evolve into who we are each destined to be. Perhaps when intertwined, it is possible to soar to the highest peaks to see how together we can bring more light into existence. And perhaps the most beautiful, most divine thing of all about our energies colliding is knowing, feeling and believing that our light together will carry us through.
