As a parent, one of my biggest fears has been passing down my own fears and insecurities to my children.
From a young age, I remember feeling insecure, different, and not good enough. I didn’t feel confident in myself, and I deeply doubted that good things would happen to me.
What I have learned over the years—especially in the last few years—is that I didn’t feel seen because I wasn’t seeing myself. I want you to read that line again: I didn’t feel seen because I wasn’t seeing myself.
Anytime you feel insecure, unseen, lacking in confidence, or not good enough, it’s because you are not seeing yourself. You are not seeing the good inside you, the badass that you are, the talent you hold, or how freaking beautiful you are.
Yes, life may have happened—parents, relationships, managers, and so on may have made you feel unseen. Their words and actions may have left lingering wounds on your heart, causing these insecurities to resurface.
And you may not want to hear this, but I’m going to say it anyway—because I wish I had known it earlier. I wish someone had told me. I wish I had the tools to understand this sooner, so I wouldn’t have been governed by the wrongdoings, insecurities, anger, and frustrations of others.
YOU ARE IN CONTROL OF YOUR CONSCIOUSNESS. You cannot blame anyone else for the state of your inner world.
Your consciousness is in control of your energy. And your energy creates the life that is happening to you right now.
No one else has the power to take that away from you.
I get it—life may suck, or at least have its moments. I’ve lived through them too, and still do. I understand what it feels like to not even have the energy to get up, to think straight, or to be so angry at the injustice happening around you.
But peace comes from within. Confidence comes from within. No one can take your energy.
It is a choice to build yourself up, to clear your consciousness, and to make yourself feel seen. And if you don’t believe you can do it, know and trust that I believe you can.
No one has the power to take that from you. When you see yourself for the beautiful soul that you are—for the strong, wise, capable, and worthy person that exists when you put aside all the fear, anxiety, worries, and outdated identities—then you will be seen.
It all starts from within. And the beauty of it all? When you see yourself—when you recognise the goodness inside—you give permission for others to see themselves too. Your children, your spouse, your colleagues.
It creates a beautiful butterfly effect.
Love,
Janani
